As political tensions mount, Omar finds himself faced with choosing whether to embrace the Palestinian cause and take an active role in resistance, while Alya struggles with the breakup of her love affair and her effort to make a life for herself. Her brother Omar manages the family hotel, which has become a meeting place for locals and expatriates who enjoy the cocktail dancing and other innovations he has introduced. Alya Habeeb is a young professional woman who teaches in a Western-influenced school as she attempts to establish a life for herself in a community that still regards marriage and family life as her only acceptable choice.
